Spinal decompression therapy is a nonsurgical treatment for the relief of back and leg pain, neck pain and arm pain. With motorized traction therapy (done on a table), a disc in your spine can be isolated and placed under negative pressure, causing a vacuum effect. The vacuum does two things: The protruding or herniated disc material may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. That vacuum promotes movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks so they can heal. This results: Pain reduction and proper healing at the injured site.
There are a number of spinal decompression machines presently used in the U.S. At In-Line Chiropractic, Dr. Lindy Johnson uses a Triton DTS.
Is this therapy right for you? If you have herniated, protruding or bulging discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica or radiculopathy (pinched nerves), then yes! This therapy is not recommended for pregnant women, or patients who have severe osteoporosis, severe obesity or severe nerve damage. It is not recommended for patients over 80, for those who have had spinal surgery with metal implants in the spine.
If you have bulging or herniated discs, neck pain, back pain or pain/numbness/tingling down your leg, call Dr. Lindy Johnson today for a consultation to see if spinal decompression therapy could be right for you!
